HDMI cable goes in from your device, RCA cables out to your older-style TV, USB cable to power the device (most newer devices have a USB plug in to steal power). Make sure the tab was switched to NTSC for North America.

It works a charm and is very easy to use: just plug it in to your HDMI input on your television or monitor, connect The USB to a power source, connect your old device using standard RCA cables to do it and you are done. A switch on the side controls the HDMI output (with audio) at 720p or 1080i. I actually prefer 720p as it seems even more clear and stable. Excellent product.
